My Sesame Street Art Journey: From Contest to the Official Store
Hey there, fellow art lovers and Sesame Street fans! Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in Zazzle's Sesame Street Design contest, and let me tell you, it was SO much fun to take beloved characters that I grew up watching and see them come to life on products in the official Zazzle store! Today I’ll take you behind the scenes of my creative journey, from painting some of my personal favorite characters like Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Elmo, and Cookie Monster in my signature style to the honor of winning one of the Editors Pick from Zazzle. The Sesame Street Design Contest: Where Art Meets Nostalgia
When I heard about Zazzle's Sesame Street Design contest, I knew I had to jump on board. Growing up, Sesame Street was a huge part of my childhood, and I've had the joy of sharing it with my own son who is grown now. The opportunity to put my own spin on these iconic characters was a dream come true. Armed with my brushes and paints, I set out to give each character a hint of my unique style, adding fun pops of unexpected color and playful scribbly lines to capture their essence while staying true to their classic look.
The Creative Process: Painting the Beloved Puppets
As I got into the creative process, I found myself transported back to my childhood, surrounded by the warmth and magic of Sesame Street. With each stroke of the brush, I found myself smiling ear to ear bringing Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Elmo, and Cookie Monster to life in my artwork. It was a collaboration of nostalgia and creativity that brought back so many memories of watching these characters on screen as a little girl and then many years later again with my own kiddo and the excitement of giving them my own artistic twist made it hard to stop at just these characters. After I painted the initial characters I decided to try my hand at creating the background for them digitally in Photoshop using bold and bright colors that are synonymous with not only Sesame Street, but in the art that I create as well. I think that they really turned out fun and unique.
